If you’re unhappy with the nose you were born with, you can change it with rhinoplasty. Since rhinoplasty is a complex procedure, patients generally have a lot of questions about surgery and downtime. One of the questions they often ask is – How long is recovery from rhinoplasty.
Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty (nose job) is a procedure that is done to adjust the shape and size of the nose. Rhinoplasty may be requested for cosmetic reasons or to correct structural problems with the nose.
Nose surgery is performed using an open or closed technique. With closed rhinoplasty all the incisions for surgery are made inside the nose, but with open rhinoplasty an incision is also made in the skin that divides the nostrils. Rhinoplasty is an outpatient procedure that may be performed under local or general anesthesia.
How long is recovery from rhinoplasty?
There is usually significant swelling and bruising after rhinoplasty, and this generally takes several months to fully resolve. Most patients are able to go out in public and return to work after about 7 days. Some swelling will persist but will gradually diminish over the following months, as the cartilage and bone settle.
The recovery time may vary from the average for some patients, as everyone heals at a different rate, so some people may need to take 2 weeks off work. Patients should make certain to discuss recovery expectations with their plastic surgeon during the initial consultation, so that they know what to anticipate during the recovery process (read more).
